Long-Life, Uncooled VOx Microbolometer
A Focal Plane Array (FPA) is a grid of tiny sensors that capture infrared radiation and convert it into an image. When we talk about an uncooled VOX microbolometer FPA, it refers to a specific type of infrared sensor that doesn’t need to be cooled to work. The VOX microbolometer is a type of uncooled sensor that detects temperature differences by measuring the changes in resistance caused by the heat it absorbs. VOX stands for “Vanadium Oxide,” which is the material used in the sensor.
Because the VOX microbolometer doesn’t require cooling, it’s cheaper, lighter, and more portable than cooled systems. These uncooled FPAs are commonly used in a wide range of applications like security cameras, automotive systems, and personal thermal cameras, offering good thermal imaging without the need for complex cooling systems.
